This is the quilt I made from scraps and remnants using the "V" method from a quiltville.com pattern. I had such problems with the panels stretching from the bias cuts. Since then I found a book with this pattern and she suggested stay stitching around the panels before trimming. I might try that next time. I quilted it a lot, which helped, and washing and drying helped, but there are parts where there are sort of "bubbles" because even though I thread basted very close, I could never get it totally flat. Since it is for me to use on the couch, I am not fretting over it, but if it were for someone, would have ripped, regrouped, or started over. I did learn a lot and got to practice FMQ on the dinky mechanical Brother, Walmart quality, which is a nice machine. I didn't even use the slippery slider thing and it worked fine.

It turned out nice. I will have to check out the 'V' method.
What number Brother do you have? Mine is also a cheapie but it is a workhorse and I've had it 5/6 years. It has pushed through a lot of thread!! |
A lovely quilt, great choice on your colors.
Super nice.....love the colors too!!
I love purple and green together. Beautiful quilt.
Love your colors!
great quilt!! even with the slippery slider thing i have had trouble moving some quilts doing FMQ and not others. backing, batting? who knows.
It looks fine to me and glows like a stained glass window. Wonderful fabric selection.
Did you starch your strips? That helps me control both cutting and piecing. |
BEAUTIFUL colors! I've been wanting to make this pattern, what's the V method?
Beautiful :-P
Ohmy! I just love the colors and simple design!
Need to think of it as a training aid I have quite a few of them. Everyone else love them but the maker tends to be so critical of them selfs. I think its beautiful I love purple shades.
Love the French Braid, and love your colors. Great job

It looks wonderful! Love the colors...It doesn't look wonky !! :-D

Thanks everyone! Ranger, it is an XR-52, very basic. I love it. No, I don't starch. Never have, maybe I should try it. I got the pattern from www.quiltville.com. I think it is under "V" method. Free. Similar to the braid I think, except for the square at the tips. It was challenging to trim everything right, but the actual sewing was fine. I just picked random strips and added them on. The wonky part is that it stretched and I couldn't get the bubbles out no matter how much I pulled, tugged, etc. But, oh well, I am loving it anyway.

Love those purples! Really great job!

WOW!! Stunning quilt!! It looks like stained glass :D:D:D

It is beautiful..I think I have the same Brother from Walmart. But it has held up over lots of sewing..Never could get FMQ on it, though. :-)

Hi everyone. I made a mistake, not quiltville, but quilterscache. Here is the linkhttp://www.quilterscache.com/B/BraidBlock.html
Thanks for the link. My Brother is an XL3200, also a basic model. I do plan to get another sewing machine soon but can't decide on what I want.
