This is a memory quilt for my Dad who we lost to cancer last year. He is a pilot that learned to fly long before there was any FAA to give tests and licenses. He loved the old airplanes and had one until a couple of years ago when he sold his to my brother. This is the center of the quilt. I plan to put a six inche border with appliqued propellers going around. When he was a little boy, my grandma took him to the airport to watch the planes. When he had a birthday party, instead of pin the tail on the donkey, they played pin the prop on the plane.

This quilt is hand appliequed and hand pieced, and will be hand quilted.

I love your quilt. I keep thinking that someday I am going to make a quilt with airplanes on it for my DH. He was a naval aviator for 20 years and just loved flying. I have collected quite a few airplane fabrics (and some clouds) and have not yet decided how I want to put it all together. Did you come up with the pattern yourself?

jstitch 08-09-2008 09:29 AM

Actually, no.

The pattern is from Quilt Neouveau Designs.

I bought it pre-fire and it made it through the fire, although a little dirty and damaged. Then we my Dad passed away, it just seemed like the thing to do.

You can go a search and find it. It is still availalbe. They do a lot of things that I really like.

He had a Luscomb (sp?)
It was the first all metal stunt plane ever built.

He had one flying and one in the back yard to rebuild.

He looked at one in an add once that was free, but you had to get it out of the field where it landed...LOL

Glad you like it, I like that one too.

It is acutally appliqued pieces of red fabric and red/white checkered fabric.
Wing was appliqued as a unit then applied as one piece.

Not hard.
