I was trying to reply to each comment, thinking my response would show up under the comment but it does not, so I m going to say thank you all for the lovely comments, from all of you!
The poppies are a combination applique, for the petal shape, a bit of thread work, then painted with more thread work. The finished project will be at least 1 of not 2 wall hangings.
It is the most fun I have had working on a project since the creation of the fire quilts. The avatar is one one of them. Often it is my favorite because it really captures the essence of fire for me.

Is there a pattern for this?
