Off on a whirlwind, with all of you as inspiration, I rearranged and cleaned up my sewing area today! Then I put away my rickity ironing board and made myself a 24"x48" ironing surface. Love it, love it!!! Here's some pics.

My local Sam's Club carries all sizes of these tables.

omak 07-18-2009 12:00 PM

Nice workspace!
Congratulations on the ironing surface!
so ... may I be so bold as to ask ... where did you hide your stash???

kathy 07-18-2009 12:04 PM

looks like a nice size room

MoMoSews 07-18-2009 12:29 PM

Should of took a pic of my plastic totes of fabric too?

Eddie 07-18-2009 12:34 PM

That looks wonderful, what a great space! And like you, I made me a 24" x 48" ironing board today as well. Great minds think alike, eh? Mine looks like yours, too. Did you use duck cloth on the cover?

MoMoSews 07-18-2009 12:42 PM

ACTUALLY! Until I can get appropriate fabric to cover permantly, I just used an old sheet. By the way, my husband is kind enough to let me use up half of the family room in the basement to quilt.

Eddie 07-18-2009 12:47 PM

It looks wonderful, and like you I also love mine - it makes ironing large pieces SOOOOO much easier.

Knot Sew 07-18-2009 01:29 PM

Wow you did good , I could use you at my house :D

Lacelady 07-18-2009 03:09 PM

I am so impressed, you are soooooo tidy.

katier825 07-18-2009 03:10 PM

I sure do envy your awesome space! It's so much easier when you have a dedicated area to sew. I have a tiny corner of the bedroom that i can use when piecing. But for quilting, I have to set up in the dining room. It's my only table, so I have to close up shop for meals. Not practical, but at least it's something!

quiltluvr 07-18-2009 03:32 PM

The lighting is the best in my mind (I have a hard time seeing sometimes.) I'm sure you can plan to spend many hours creating beautiful quilts there. That's so sweet of your hubby. Love your organization. :)

Nice space. I like your ironing board. I don't have room in my sewing space for one that large!!

amma 07-18-2009 07:15 PM

Beautiful sewing room, love your new ironing table :D :D :D

littlehud 07-18-2009 07:23 PM

LOL ... yessss!!! I always get so happy when I know I am not the ONLY one! <g> I really do enjoy looking at all the order in your new sewing room, though ... it is very calming.

Quiltgranny 07-18-2009 08:56 PM

Love you new set up! How nice and roomy.

I'm looking for a similar table(s) for my sewing room, too. I'd be interested to know what height your table is, the brand and if you feel it is sturdy and doesn't vibrate when you are sewing. Thanks so much. :)

pittsburgpam 07-18-2009 09:24 PM

What a great space!!! I wish I had so much room!!!

tlrnhi 07-18-2009 10:37 PM

LOVE YOUR SPACE!
Wish I had that much room!
Don't you just love those banquet tables? I want to get another one so I can put mine side by side, then I don't have to get on the floor.

Bevanger 07-19-2009 04:25 AM

Wow! Great job kiddo. I could have fun there.....

MollieSue 07-19-2009 04:31 AM

Really great space!!! I love how you got it set up, and the ironing area!!!! :D

MoMoSews 07-19-2009 06:42 AM

The brand name of the tables is "Lifetime". It's 29" tall by 6 feet long and 30" wide. Unforunately, it does vibrate, but only when I FM at fast speeds. Then I go to the kitchen table. I do see them in sale ads for home improvement stores also. Like Lowe's, Home depot and Menards.

tlrnhi 07-19-2009 06:47 AM

I have the HARD top ones. Got it at Costco years ago. Needed a table for Christmas one year so I could put out my nativity scene. It then turned into my sewing table. lol

Yarn or Fabric 07-19-2009 06:51 AM

So big and roomy!! My craft room (which I am glad I have a dedicated mess room for) is the token 4th bedroom of the house that is considerably smaller than the rest of them... yeah.... it's packed and overflowing! I really need to make some of those fabric wasting raggy quilts lol.

Minda 07-19-2009 06:53 AM

What a great room! I think I would want to spend all of my time there. :D

Funny, I was just looking at that brand on line last night. The adjustable ones are WAY too expensive, too. Rats. Even 29" is a bit too tall for me for an un-sunk in machine. Still looking for a way to 'make' a slightly shorter table height.

Thanks so much for your reply. I really appreciate knowing those things.

Happy quilting! :)

MO MO: Your flower garden is jealous of your time in the quilting room...I'm jealous of your quilting space. Wow! What a fun, nice, spacious room to play. I love your ironing area as well. Good job. I can tell there is going to be a ton of creativity happening in this space.

I want to make one of these BIG ironing boards! What did you use between the duck cloth and the wood? Did you shrink the duck cloth first?

I layered it with Insulbrite as the bottom layer next to the wood, and then a layer of Warm & Natural cotton batting on top of that, followed by the layer of duck cloth on top of that. I stapled the 3 layers to the back of the 2' x 4' plywood sheet, each layer stapled separately so I could pull them tight individually. The Insulbright was stapled closest to the edge, with the batting stapled a little further out, and then the duck cloth still a little further out so that I was always stapling through a single layer of cloth. I didn't pre-shrink the duck cloth, I just ran the steam iron over it and it seemed to help it become even a little tighter than I was able to stretch it by hand. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this big ironing board, should have made me one long ago!

OMG, I just love your room. And it looks so big and so tidy!! And your ironing board is just awesome!
