used a plain muslin or off white for the backing on this quilt? I orginally planned on this for my greatnephew but dh didn't particularly care for it and I have grown slowly unfond of it wish I had done it differently. Anyway I am going to send it to Downy quilts for kids when I get it quilted. I have some of the colors left but don't think enough ; i took it to joanns looking for something for back and just can't find anything without paying and arm and leg. so I thought I would quilt with red thread top and bottom and use some of decorative stitches on machine. Is that ok? is it bad to give to Downy cause I don't like it? Should I wait a while and see if it grows on me and can find a backing to match? I can get some more of the yellow with red dots and more of the bear material but they r $9 yard and no coupons right now

I think it's cute...and downy would appreciate it with whatever backing you decide to put on! It doesn't have to be spectacular...it just has to have love to wrap around a little one!

The Amish only use muslin for their backings and I often use it. I think it would be fine.

A child will be very happy to receive this quilt!!! It is so bright and cheery :D:D:D
A muslin backing will be just fine

Remember how soft muslin gets when it gets washed. It'll be great on a sweet little cuddly quilt.

Just use the muslin and send it off to Downey. I'm sure, they'll find a worthy recipient for it.

Would you consider piecing a back or do you just want to use one fabric kind for the back?

No matter the reason you donate a quilt, it will be loved by the child it comforts. I think your quilt is cute and Downey will be very appreciative to receive it.

Your quilt is really very nice. It is bright and I am sure the recipient will love it. Don't feel bad because you don't like it. And I would much rather see you donate it to a group like that than just leave it sit as a UFO. I just received a quilt in the doll swap with a tea stained muslin on the back and it is absolutely beautiful. She just soaked the muslin in tea and it gave it such a rich look, I wonder if you could use a tea that has a very dark brown, or maybe even a pinkish color to it, like Red Zinger? I am going to try that on one of my next ones.

I've used that same teddy bear fabric for a downy quilt!!!!

Did you look at the broadcloth when you were at Joann? Some of those are usually on sale.

Definitely use muslin on the back and send it off as a charity quilt. Just because you don't like the final outcome doesn't mean you didn't put a lot of hard work and time into making it. It deserves a good home even if that home isn't where it was originally intended to go. Children aren't anywhere near the critics we adults are. I'm certain some child will have a lot of joy brought to them when they receive this.

Quilt it and send it on it's way! :)

I thought about that using the yellow green red but I would rather just use one piece and not piece( :?:

Muslin would be perfect

marsye 04-27-2010 02:07 PM

It would be just fine to use muslin.

The person who receives it is going to be so possessive with it and love it so much that "No one will have a better blankie than they do!"

littlehud 04-27-2010 07:29 PM

I think that would be find. I like the quilt and I'm sure there is a child somewhere that will love it.
