Would you add a border to this?

I don't know how long I have had this panel or where I got it, but I think it is really cute. However it seems to be an odd size to me. It measures 22" by 42". Do you think I should add a border to it? I am going to try to sell it, and want it to be a good usable size.

I would as I think it would give it a more finished look. Plus I think it would draw the eye in to the great pictures. Darling quilt.

Hi

I would also... it just does not look finished

grammydeb 09-21-2012 09:24 AM

Yes, I think a border would finish it off nicely.

I agree. A border would do wonders for it. Great piece, btw.

i would put some pieced blocks just on one side... not both because then it might look like you forgot the top and bottom. then, to tie it together, i'd put a border around the whole thing.

I would not. It is lovely.

MattieMae 09-21-2012 10:10 AM

I would add a border, 22" x 42" does seem like an odd size.

lallyann 09-21-2012 10:15 AM

yes, I think it needs to be a bit wider. The suggestion QuiltnNan is a wonderful one to add a row of blocks to one side! I would have never thought of that, but I love that idea! It is a really pretty panel!

sueinstitches 09-21-2012 10:26 AM

I would add a scolleped border all around really like the panel !

simple borders would be very nice but thequilt is adorable

joyce888 09-21-2012 01:53 PM

Yes. I would add a border that had some piecing to it, just to give it that pieced quilt look.

At 22" wide, you can put a column of 7 " block on each side to bring it up to 36x44. Then border it with or without a narrow border first. I like a 4/5 ratio of width to length. This would do it.

I must have missed something somewhere. It seems to already be quilted. I would wonder how a border would be added. If it's a wall hanging, I like it as it is. The dimensions don't bother me. A binding the same color as the little scalloped edge might be nice.

pollyjvan9 09-21-2012 04:06 PM

Hi GailG, You are right, it is partially quilted. But the more I work on it, the more it seems like it needs a border. If I add one I will put it on as I do with quilt as you go. Top right sides together - the then backing right sides together with the batting on top. Sew it on, then bring the pieces together, baste and bind.

I was thinking quilt when I posted. If it's a wallhanging, then it can be any size.

I think a border would be nice.

Jammin' Jane 01-10-2013 10:00 AM

I like the idea of a scalloped border!
Please show us what you decide! :)

I think it needs a little something. Looks like the center panel of a crib quilt. I would make it that size, I believe that it will sell much quicker that way.

travelingquilter 01-10-2013 06:59 PM

yes.....22 is not wide enuf for the length you have. 45 wide would be good, but even 42, to make it square would make it more usable for a longer period of time. a tiny yellow strip followed by the turquoise would really set it off.

Borders always make a quilt look better.
