This was my first YBR, but it is not my last. I bought the kit in Idaho, but then did not get around to doing it until 18 months later, after we moved to Virginia.

I have another top finished in this pattern, but it is currently hiding from me. I will share it when it turns up. :P

Close up for detail on some of the fabrics.

Everyone of these look different, a veryversatile pattern, this and turning twenty are so much fun. You did a very nice job :D

annmarie 01-25-2008 07:17 AM

So what is the difference between yellow brick road & turning twenty?

cnolan 01-25-2008 07:54 AM

I have never done a Turning Twenty, but I think you have to cut out all the pieces individually, where the Yellow Brick Road has some stripping. I think Turning Twenty pieces are also a bit larger. (Just my impressions from watching a freind make a TT while I did my YBR at a quilt retreat.)

Like the colors you used. The YBR is fun, I've made several. One was from a pack of fat quarters given to me when I went on a quilt trip. So I named that quilt after the trip. But I've found another quilt is even more fun to make. It's called disappearing nine patch. It can be made from charm packs or you can cut your own squares. Just sew 9 squares together (all the same size) and then cut them in half vertically and again horizontally. Mix them up and sew them back together again. Bet you can't make just one!!

Oooo, I like those colors together!!

Minda 01-26-2008 05:48 AM

I did a Turning Twenty quilt for the Linus Project. You cut your pieces from fat quarters instead of strips.

jbsstrawberry 01-26-2008 10:06 AM

That's beautiful!! I love the colors!! Such a talented quilter you are!! :D

Those are 12x12 blocks? If so, nice sized quilt. (72x84?) I hope to see it quilted.

Very nice combinations of fabrics. I suspect it will grace a bed nicely someday.

Do you have a picture of the Disappearing 9 patch? Would love to see it. I have several UFO's I am pushing to get done right now, so hate to even do a little of another one to visualize the finished product. You make it sound as if I would have trouble getting some of the other UFO's out of the way if I started it. (I am always eager to see, and try new blocks, especially if they go quickly and am quite envious of some of the projects I see here).

I like the colors you've chosen. It's going to be a very nice quilt once finished.

The disappearing 9-patch is fun, fast and easy. I've made 3 of them in the past 2 days. A top that is aprox 40" X 60" can be made start to finish in less than 2 hours.

Here is a link to a great tutorial. I hope it helps. :)

Oops

Forgot the link! Duh

Thank you!! I have to go try the Disappearing 9 patch now!

Peggy McFadden 01-30-2008 08:37 PM

Me too, love it! :D

Celeste 01-31-2008 12:15 AM

Those are such beautiful colors! And, a beautiful quilt!

Tiffany 01-31-2008 07:02 AM

Thanks for the link! We had a gal who taught this at a local guild meeting and I always wanted to try it, except I couldn't find the directions. Oh, they're somewhere down in my quilt room, laughing at me from some odd place. I'm sure I'll find them the minute I make one of these and don't need the pattern anymore. Lol. I printed out the pattern. Thank you again.

Thanks for the link to the disappearing 9 patch...can't wait to start! I'll be digging through my stash tomorrow!

Love your YBR quilt. I did a TT and I really decided I like the YBR much better. I like your colors

Celeste 01-31-2008 06:32 PM

Tiffany - That seems to happen to me quite often! Bit annoying, but I feel better knowing I'm not the only one! :D

Rofl!

Celeste 01-31-2008 11:09 PM

Well, that is a lot better than saying I lost it. . . or is it?

Peggy McFadden 02-01-2008 12:04 AM

Every quilter I know has a problem finding things. I think it is because we have a habit of finding too many things to keep around, things we may need some day or that perfect piece of fabric that asked to come home with us. Isn't that part of what makes us who we are? Who has time to stay organized, anyway?

Have you been peeking into my quilt room?

Peggy McFadden 02-01-2008 12:36 AM

Don't know about yours, but it is very frustrating to try to keep mine organized. I get feeling "cocky" I guess when I get it straight for more than a week or so. Then it takes forever to get it back where I don't have to dig. I prefer to believe that is part of being a quilter, rather than I am totally unorganized. Please don't tell me all the rest of you keep things in order. If anyone needs an excuse, there is a positive to all of this. By "digging" I ocassionally find fabric that I forgot I had, and when I am lucky, it is just what I needed. :D

Lois-nounoe 02-02-2008 11:38 AM

Organized?? Isn't that a "four letter" word?? Don't you love the mags that show how to get and stay organized. I couldn't GET orangized much less stay that way for five MINUTES!!!!!

Peggy McFadden 02-02-2008 05:47 PM

Let's just call it ORGZ, makes as much sense as lol or rofl, what do you think? That would make it a 4 letter word in every way. :?:

Lois-nounoe 02-02-2008 06:04 PM

Right on, Peggy!!! Sure works for me!! :D

reva 02-04-2008 07:00 PM

i have never made a Yellow Brick Road but have made about 5 Turning Twenty quilts - I'm now in the process of making one for a dear friend marrying a wonderful woman. Her husban passed away 7 yrs ago, his wife last year, cancer... I'm taking 16 fat quarters - representing their five children, their late spouses, God, their 'clean slate' of a new marriage and then three more representing each of their interests. I cannot wait to get it done - I have begun cutting the pieces already!!

Peggy McFadden 02-05-2008 02:20 PM

I would never have thought to cover all of those important areas, sounds wonderful!
