Yesterday's Sewing Saturday project
1 Attachment(s)
Yesterday was my quilt guild's Sewing Saturday. We do it third 3 Saturday... but anyhooo... I started the day off cutting and piecing the center to this wall hanging. The pattern is from Big Block Quilts by Magic.
I am making this for my niece who graduated college last year. I emailed her a picture of it. I think it might be a bit too girlie for her so I might be making a different one for her. We'll see what she says after I hear back from her.... But I thought I'd share the beginning of this project. I need to resew the top half to the bottom half. It is about 1/8" off in a few places and it irritates me so I have to fix it. To me, it sticks out and yells at me. I'll work on ripping it out maybe this afternoon. |
Great job and thank you for sharing Have a blessed day Ellen

It is from the Big Block Quilts by Magic book. The diamonds are not that easy and the way that this book does it makes it even easier - although there is quite a bit of waste - which I will use sometime I'm sure. I have another one author's other book as well Stars by Magic and that one I like a lot. I got the book that this pattern was out of just for this pattern. The rest of the book has nothing of interest to me at all. I was happy when I saw this book in C&T's spring sale so it cost me very little to get the pattern. I am hoping to make one in colors for me soon. I just need to get background colors and then I'll be good to start on mine :) |
Your color choices are lovely! I can relate to your frustration about being 1/8" off - how does that happen when we're so careful??? I can't see it on yours and she'll love it.

Wonderful job!!!!
Wonderful fabrics and wonderful block; if she doesn't like it, I'll take it!
Very pretty! Sandy 64
Sadly my niece did not like it :'( however I think her sister will love it - and she's graduating college this winter so it might come in handy yet.
I ran in to town today to get some mid range colors. I'll be washing and cutting fabric tomorrow... |
Sorry your niece didn't like it. I think it is very pretty and nice choice of fabrics. The next one you make won't have the 1/8" off and should go so much smoother!
I can't believe someone did not like your project, it's fabulous. Bright and colorful, what a wonderful center block!
Great pattern and I love your color choices. By the time you fix this one, make another one for the first niece and one for yourself you'll have this pattern and technique down pat. Who knows where you'll go from there!! Thanks for sharing.

i love it!...it's fantastic
I just got that book and have bee drooling over the tree. Yours is wonderful. Thanks for the inspiration
Pretty, I will have to try this one. It looks easy.
i would not tear it out it is not noticeable you did a great job i love the pattern have never seen it before.
I think it is going to be pretty when you get done with it. Please post when finished. I'd like to see it!
I emailed a picture of this to another one of my nieces - who is graduating from college this winter - and she absolutely loves it. :D
I do need to rip it out here or there though - especially in the center. That part is really, really noticeable. I can't help it. Missed points drive me nuts! I'll set this one aside for a bit and work on the one for the original niece. It's only a year late already..... |
OOOOH! that's pretty
It's very pretty. It looks like there's enough room to square it up on the sides and top, rather than ripping it out? Just a thought.
It is a lovely block. Great colors.
Really lovely
Awe, it's sew pretty!
Love your center! I just got that book & that is one of the patterns I want to try.
Really pretty block! Love the colors you used.
That is SOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE!
It is beautiful!! I love the 30's repro. fabrics. Some like more modern fabrics, though. I can't imagine someone not liking this block, though!
Seriously!?! I cannot see any mistake, but I understand your irritation (quilters OCD) with what you see as an imperfection. Love the whole thing!
It's charming and your piecing looks great to me.
Very pretty. It will be a great wall quilt.
Very nice. I'm glad your other niece loves it. Thanks for sharing.
Very pretty. Is the pattern only for the wall hanging size or could it be made small enough to be a sofa pillow? Thanks for sharing with us.
Love your fabrics, well done....
Too bad she didn't like it! I think it looks great!!
Nice job! :) |
That is beautiful. I love the pattern. I haven't seen anything like that.
Love this pattern, and 30s repros are my favorites!
I love it. I don't think this block is too girly at all. It kinda symbolizes a college grad: stretching their branches out into the world. Once you square up the blocks and it is quilted it will be wonderful. Great job.
I think it's cute.
Very nice! So many possibilities!
