I was sort of challenged earlier today to make a bow tucks with a zipper. Turns out that you will lose all that nice wide opening if you insert a zipper. So I put a 4" strip of velcro between the handles. Also I don't care for the bulk of batting, so I used fusible interfacing. I quilted the pocket and then decided I didn't like that for the rest of the purse; took away from the batik design, so I quilted the bottom part to add stability to it. I haven't put the board in yet. I think I will use that needlepoint plastic mesh stuff, if I have a piece the right size. I am not going shopping again.

Looks lovely. I need to get going and make mine. LOL

I like your velcro adaptation.

Thank you. I can't say that they are that fun to make. Too labor intensive for me. You would have to charge $250 if you were to sell them to get your money in time from them. I would rather make wedding gowns.

You did that one pretty fast Gran, and it surer is purty! I like the velcro too.

It has to be a one day job for me or I won't do it. I have too many other things going on in my life. If it goes into a 2nd day, it most likely won't get finished. And I hate UFO's!!!

Love it!!!

I purchased the pattern, but have not started yet. I figured it was not a 1 hr. project. I waiting for the weather to cool down as I don't like to air condition my sewing room to much. Comfortable sleeping is more important. I sure have enough fabric in my stash to shop for the fabric.

Beautiful bag !!!!!!!! Michele

I keep thinking I will have to make one of these but it might get added to the bottom of the list. I really do love your choice of colors though and appreciate your tips on the velcro and the fusible interfacing. Thanks for posting pics.

Well that answered that for me. I made the Lazy Girl Margo bag because it has a zipper and I like them for my purse. I have heard so much about bow tucks on here but I was not sure I would like all my stuff to be so visable. I HAD wondered if a zipper in the bow tuck would work. Thank you for that little experiment!

It looks gorgeous!!! I have the pattern and have not made it yet.

I just purchased a pattern from Henrietta's...wish I had seen your post first, but hey...we eat my mistakes and wear my mistakes, so nothing new. I do want to do it and I appreciae the tip on the velcro. Still looking for the perfect bag patterns. I don't like big bags...thanks again. fmd36 in NH

Just to warn you, it took me close to 6 hours to make it. And I am a very experienced seamstress (don't like the word sewer). If you did all the quilting, you could easily add another couple hours onto it. I probably won't make another one. I have patterns for ones that would go much faster. And I do like zipper closures.

Thanks so much. I wanted something I could use in the fall and that would go with anything. And hey I found something for the bottom that I forgot I had! It is called Stitch N Shape by Floriani. Mine is double sided fusible so all I had to do was iron my fabric to it. Yea!!!

Jingle 08-18-2010 02:31 PM

Very pretty.

I think its beautiful! When I bought my Bow Tucks pattern, the quilt shop owner told me she used plastic canvas for the bottom too!
