My cousin was the recipient, she is a fabulous quilter but hadn't seen or heard about mug rugs before. As I was in a huge rush to make these I opted for no bias binding. I decided I like the bias binding finish the best as I think it really makes them 'pop' with a contrasting bias edge.

"free paper piecing guitar pattern". |
So here are some answers to questions asked.
I used regular lightweight poly batting. I also use one layer of Insulbright to make them as 'functional' as possible. The Mary E mug rugs are aprox. 6 1/2" x 9" The Bible verse ones are aprox. 6 1/2" x 12" I like the smaller size a bit better but if you make them larger I am sure that means a bigger snack, right?? I am not a coffee drinker at all but that hasn't stopped me from making Mug Rugs!! Everyone has their own little poem they are creating so here's mine; I am a little Mug Rug As cute as I can be I'm here to protect your table From Coffee, Water or Tea So place your mug upon me You'll see there is extra room For you to add some cookies Or a snack in the Afternoon. Sheriann 2/2011 And I am in LOVE with that gorgeous Guitar mug rug! How fabulous is that!! Thank you for sharing!!! And.. Thank you sew much for the lovely comments. I love making mug rugs because it's almost like instant gratification in regards to making a quilt! |
Very cute! I love making them.

i use mine everyday..it is 7 x 7. i have never washed it..i either rinse it off with a little soap and water. or soak it.
i didn't want it looking like my potholders,by putting it in the washing machine! i just use warm and natural scraps of batting in mine.. back |
Okay Watterstide - love these. I really like the size, too.

I hope no one minds but I borrowed a few lines from one of your poems to go along with mine.
I am making mug-rugs for some patrons of my son. He works in a pub and these people are so nice and I thought that they might enjoy the mug-rug. Here's my poem........what do you think? A place for coffee, vino or tea, whenever you use it, please think of me. There's extra room for a little treat, be it pretzels, nuts or something sweet. Now pick up your glass, for a round of cheer, My wish for you is good luck throughout the next year. |
How cute. She will love them.
