thanks to Dungeonquilter's tut I was able to do my own folded dahlia. There are a few things I need to adjust on the next one that I did not realize on this one such as using white thread instead of something to blend in when sewing down the squares and to use more contrasting fabric but overall I am happy with my first attempt. But I am already mulling over in my head several other colors to make this in for gifts.

THank you Dungeonquilter for such a great tut.......

I usually don't like green, but this is beautiful. Looks like a real flower from here.

QuiltnCowgirl 04-21-2011 09:34 AM

Looks real good! I so "got it" after seeing her tute. Can't wait to make one too!

Wow, your Dahlia has a totally different look than the others, most of which were softer gradiations.

I LOVE the way you've use all the different textures of green patterns for your petals.

It's really very lovely.

Will it be a pillow or something larger?

redturtle 04-21-2011 10:16 AM

i like the greens you chose...i understand the change from the white thread...but i think it gives it another design aspect...

great job!

I'm with you as well, but this is for a friend who's fav color is green and the brighter the better. So hope she likes it.

BELIEVE ME when I say if I can do it YOU can. Just follow the tut and the hardest part is getting the 7 colors together.

QuiltnCowgirl 04-21-2011 10:24 AM

What are you seeing? I'm seeing various reds, something with yellow for the center, with green as the backing! I think I can have a lot of fun with this pattern. Now to just start on one lol.

MDMPanther 04-21-2011 01:27 PM

I realize amore contrasting group of fabric is traditional for this, but I think I like yours better. It really makes the "flower" stand out from the darker background. Interesting idea.

Cottontop 04-21-2011 02:30 PM

Wowwwwwwwwwwww! Hey, if the friend doesn't like it,......

Cherylsea 04-21-2011 02:38 PM

If the white thread bothers you - get a fine point Sharpie and make the white green! This is absolutely lovely. You did a great job with your color selection.

WOW! These folded dahlias are just "growing" all over this board! I've seen yellow, orange, green. Who's making a blue one?
