I like the tan. I think it will blend well with the other fabric, and it fits for a boy. After all, the baseball field has dirt on it, and dirt is tan/brown.

LOL

Have fun!

May I ask where did you get that fabric? I am looking for just that combination for a baby shower gift.

Loretta, I'm going to use 3 colors. When I strip piece, I'll change the colors around to give it a more "scrappy" look -- at least that's the plan for now

Yep -- here is a tablerunner I made using charm squares: http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/20174.page

Those fabrics are going to make a pretty D9P. The tan is going to be a great blender. Looking forward to seeing the quilt.

I think I would also add some dark navy as an accent - or as someone else said - some green - for the grass in the playing field - tan is good

The blocks at 12/3/6/9 positions create sashing. The center block creates a cornerstone (after you have done the two lateral (?) cuts. The blocks in the corner will stay complete, so that is a pretty nice place to put focus fabrics, and do not all have to be the same, making the scrap quilt look totally there.
Yesterday, at the quilt show, I was working on a lady's blocks. She was using a red, white, and blue color pallete. The center block was white. Her corner blocks were different shades of blue. and then, for the 12/3/6/9 positions, she used two different colors of red ... for example 12/6 positions were one type of red, and the 3/9 positions were a different pattern/ red.
I probably won't get to see the completed quilt until the Home Coming Event, but it was get a bit closer to actually making one of these quilts.
I guess, I am trying to show you different ways to use your scraps creatively ... and that point about the sashings and cornerstones really put the d9p concept into a better perspective for me to understand how to more coordinate my scraps.
