I have gotten to the point on this quilt that I am not sure if I should be done or do more. I have stitched in the ditch around each block that has a truck or tractor in it. Actually I first stitched along each row that has the triangles then finished stitching the rest of those blocks.

The blocks are 12 x 16 and a couple are 12 x 20. The overall size is 65x65. Do I need more quilting? If I do what would you suggest I do?

This is sooo cute! If you wanterd to do more quilting, an echo stitch in the large triangles might be good. I'm no expect on this topic so will enjoy comments from others.

What are the quilting requirements for your batting? That is the first thing I look at...
Next, will it get washed a lot? if so more quilting is better  it helps it hold up longer :D:D:D

This is a cute quilt!!

A really cute quilt! I know some little guy is really going to love it! As for quilting it--I really like echo quilting, on this one probably rather wide echos in the big triangles. I might also do a little SID in the truck windows and wheel hubs. If I was really ambitious, i might do one or 2 rows of echo quilting around each truck. Whatever--he's going to love it, no mater what!

I love it.

That is Adorable know many little ones that would enjoy the theme!!

If want to add more might add running lights, 2-3 along the cab or trailer, satin stitch light, space, light, can do on top and bottom of the cabs. Sort of like a tack, Clear as mud? :)

This is a cute quilt!!

I am using a bamboo batting and it says quilt up to 8" apart. Does that mean I should not quilt closer together? Or does it mean that my (12x 16) SID is not enough?

greensleeves 11-28-2010 11:46 AM

Your greatest distance between stitching should be no more than 8" so you do need a little more stitching. Use one of the suggestions already posted. Very cute quilt, my GS would love it.

you need outline quilting around the edge of each truck to make them stand out. a little interior quilting of each truck (around the wheels, bed, etc) will do a lot for it. you want to have quilting lines of about the same density on all of the quilt. this means--don't quilt close together on some of the quilt then leave 6" spaces on other parts.
these trucks are so cute!

malega 11-28-2010 11:55 AM

Very cute love it.

lynnie 11-28-2010 12:22 PM

oh i love it

lynnie 11-28-2010 12:22 PM

you could do a border in black and yellow or white, make it look like a road

sewgull 11-28-2010 12:33 PM

Stitch around the trucks to so they stand out.

Pinkiris 11-28-2010 12:37 PM

Unless the little guy receiving your quilt is a baby, I would consider making it bigger so that it fits on his "big boy" bed. He's gonna love this quilt for LOTS of years!

I made a Thomas the Train crib quilt for our grandson, and then had to figure out how to make it bigger when he outgrew the crib.

Be sure that you have enough matching/coordinating fabric to enlarge it later if you decide it's big enough now.

JMHO Great Job!!!

I agree with everyone else....stitch around the trucks so they stand out. It's just adorable. It looks like the kind of quilt my grandkids would haul around bedroom to living room, so it will be washed often. That requires lots of quilting or it will begin to fall apart. My grandkids would then drag it to my house to fix. Save some time now and put enough stitches in so it holds up longer. My grandson would love it!

This is for my soon coming grandson, and since it is on the angle I don't think he will use it for a regular bed. I assume it will be used on the floor for playtime...at least I am hoping it will be used!! I am sure it will.

IngeMK 11-28-2010 01:28 PM

no advice from me, I just wanted to say that's adorable !! :P

This was a pattern so anyone wanting to make one look for The Buggy Barn Website and then the book is called "Those Crazy Kids" this was the "Convoy" pattern.

I should tell you it is a kind of stack and wack pattern and if you have never done one it will test your brain! This was my first attempt - not knowing anything - it was a challenge, but I did it. Just read the directions all first.

nativetexan 11-28-2010 01:31 PM

some "echo" quilting around the tractors would set them off nicely and give more stability to the blks. great quilt!

Matilda 11-28-2010 01:42 PM

This is so very cute!! I would put a border on, quilt it and bind it and call it done. It seem to large enough at 65 x 65. You did a great job on it!!

Crlyn 11-28-2010 01:49 PM

I think some echo around the tractors, will make them pop!

It's such a cute quilt! :D

MamaBear61 11-28-2010 04:17 PM

Your quilt is very cute and I would add some more quilting in the big areas, but that is just my opinion.

sueisallaboutquilts 11-28-2010 08:53 PM

What a darling quilt!

bjdemir 11-28-2010 09:00 PM

Will be looking that pattern up, I have quilt to make a young boy, and I am sure he would love this one. Yours is really great.

Treasureit 11-28-2010 09:41 PM

Following some of the suggestions. I stitched around the trucks and tractors and windows. Will do either the tires or the center circles (those tractor tires are a lot of work). I am adding some stitching to the large edge triangles...will post another picture when finished.

Thanks everyone!! Your suggestions were so helpful.

kristen0112 11-28-2010 10:25 PM

Super cute quilt. My 5 yr old son would love that one. I would do a meander around the trucks and tractors that way they will pop out a little bit more.

wanderingcreek 11-28-2010 10:48 PM

I love your quilt. It is absolutely adorable.! I have 3 dgs especially the 2 year old that would be in heaven if I made them one like that. Where did you get the pattern?
