Zebra Burst BLock Quilt is done
4 Attachment(s)
Finally got this bad boy finished and shipped off to Virginia yesterday. So many folks mentioned they saw "eyes" in the quilt so I decided to create an "eye" pattern to fill it in. At first I thought to use a dark grey thread but I didn't have one dark enough that it wouldn't take away from the rest of the quilt so I went back to black thread.
I made a lot of mistakes from the get go on this quilt. 1st I should have used the grey blender backing instead of the zebra backing so the quilting could be seen better. Plus the grey backing was also larger so I wouldn't have had to splice the backing to fit the quilt as it came out at 107 x 107. I added strips of the zebra backing to the top and bottom and just barely made it at the bottom so there won't be an extra seam there but there will be at the top. Next I didn't trm the batting to size so I had a lot of overhang and on the right side the batting got caught on the border pattern so I had to make another quilt label large enough to cover where the batting got caught. As I was quilting, I noticed I didn't do as well with my stitching of the blocks together so another OOPS!!! on me. I made this quilt a number of years ago so you can count this as a finished UFO off my list at least. So here is the finished product though my photos won't show you the quilting as well as I'd like. If you enlarge the backing photo, you might be able to see the eye pattern though. I just hope my friend will like it anyway. Plus I made 3 throw pillows with embroidered zebra designs on them plus I used the scrap blocks to make 2 small quilts for her kitties named Sherlock and Watson so very little scraps leftover so a plus for me. Seems I didn't take photos of the kitty quilts, darn it as they were cute. |
You are very talented and I don't see a single "mistake". Love the "eye" popping quilt and quilting. Wow....that is a LOT of time and creativity for a good friend. I'm sure she will love it and it is out of your UFO pile, so a win-win.

Great job! Love the color play!

I love the color play across the quilt, and the quilting is marvelous.

That is such a cool quilt! Kudos to you!

This is gorgeous! Love the quilting!
|
This can also be classified as a finished UFO for May as I made this quilt some years ago and it just hung there for at least 5-6 years so one more off my UFO list.

Great job all round. Loved seeing the quilt earlier and now finished is superb. Maybe ask your friend to send pix of the cat quilts, they are always appreciated here too.
|
Wow! You did a wonderful job creating this terrific quilt!

I think your quilt is simply fantastic. I would never have thought to use the zebra fabric as you did, and it turned out wonderful. Congrats on finishing a UFO too.

My friend finally got her zebra quilt last Tuesday and she sent me photos of the 2 kitty quilts I forgot to photograph so here they are. Just used the scraps leftover from the big quilt. Used a cat pattern around the border but used a different E2E on each of the 2 quilts just for kicks.

What a visually stunning quilt! Beautiful work.

LoisF, my friend loves zebras so thats why I used the zebra fabric. Took searching for the perfect zebra fabric and after ordering 3 different fabrics, the 3rd one fit the bill. I started this quilt back in say 2015 so she's been waiting a long time for it. This became my May UFO finish along with 2 kitty quilts using the leftover scraps. Her cats have already grabbed their quilt.
