That is the beauty of Eleanor's events...you do not have to be experienced to be successful. Just like her books, she helps you each step of the way. Quite a few of the attendees have never been in front of an embroidery machine, and they had no trouble following along. Some of them decided right then and there that they needed an embroidery machine of their own :lol:

I have attended an Anita Goodesign embroidery event and found the same thing...no experience required. All you need is a desire to have fun...and fun they are!

They had kits already made up for us to choose from. The runner came in three color combos...purple/lavender, black/gold (I wish I got one of those) and the red/green that I had.

The pillow was kitted with the fabrics that you see. They aren't my colors but I love that little pillow anyway. They precut the curvy frame fabric with a ruler called "The Wave".

I thought, what a great idea...cut wavy strips and then stitch down the edges with a decorative stitch. So easy and it looks great. I'm going to do this again but I think I will use really special fabric, like silk dupioni. I have some beautiful "victorian like" embroidery designs for the center.

These events are so much fun for several reasons...you learn new techniques, see new creative ideas, and meet the nicest people (fellow sewers) in the world.

By the way, Eleanor Burns is such a lovely, generous, kind hearted woman. She is so down to earth, you feel like you've always known her. She really is a very special person.

The runner is made from a pattern she developed specifically for this event. We used Babylock Symphony embroidery/sewing machines so the the pattern is specific to Babylock machines.
For example, we had to use the circular attachment for the piped quarter circles. I am right now trying to make another runner and am trying to figure out what size to make those quarter circles because the pattern does not give the size, but only tells you the settings (measurement marks) for the circular attachment. I don't have a Babylock so my circular attachment is completely different, and inferior to the Babylock one in my opinion. I just thought...maybe I should have bought that machine LOL, they were selling them! LOL It is my understanding that when Eleanor Burns creates a machine specific pattern for an event, it is not for sale.

I can tell you that the dresdan pieces were cut with a template that measures 6" long x 3¼" wide at the widest end, and 1 3/8" wide at the narrow end. Maybe you coud make up some dresden plates and create your version of this runner. :wink:

:lol: :lol: :lol: I can't take credit for the quilting (tulip stitching) on the background. That was all done by the embroidery machine! That is one of the things I love about machine embroidery. They make it so easy to create something that looks like it took all day to make. :thumbup:
