Default Pteronophobia

Hello, my name is Tina, and I used to have Pteronophobia.

In case you are not aware of what that large 5 dollar word means, it is a phobia that I think alot of quilters start out with. It is an abnormal fear of FEATHERS ! Though I don’t think most scientists would include our quilting feathers in that same category. The fear for me was quite real, though given the number of quilters who are deathly afraid of attempting free motion ( or any other kind for that matter ) feathers, perhaps not so abnormal !

Now you will see that my opening statement says I USED to have this condition. That is because I have overcome my fears of those fine feathery friends. I managed to do it the same way one would confront most phobias. I confronted it head on. I have decided that I want feathers on the Hole in the Wall quilt I am currently working on, and by God, feathers I was going to have. They may not be perfect, but I have a feeling they are going to look alot better by the time I finish 36 blocks worth of them !

Here are some snaps of the first !

Not too shabby if I do say so myself ! I am trying to remember what I was so afraid of all this time !!

Good for you! By the time you've finished you'll be a pro at them.

Your feathers look great! Just out of curiosity as I'm still learning about quilting: This is just one block, and what you're doing is called quilt-as-you-go, right?
