This was an all day class at our guild...they were really fun to do, but took all day. They sit beside your chair while hand stitching for pins and needles...I put sand in my big center but not in the bud. The base is about 17" tall and was a lamp I took apart.

not a good picture

Cool! Is there a pattern for that somewhere? I can see my guild doing it.

I thought thats what the arm of the chair/couch was for?? :)
Its cute. and a great idea.
Although having a cat that likes to get his mouth on anything and everything I don't think it would be safe in my house! lol I would have him back in the vet getting more xrays!

Oh how fun your pin cushion is! I love that you used wool patchwork for the flower centers. The little bud coming off the side is adorable accent to the overall arrangement. Very nice indeed!

I have thought about making these before too. I saw them on the web while surfing around. How do you attach them to the base? Hot glue??? I went looking for candle holders to make them with. But I never found any that inspired me. I thought maybe a crystal bowl or plate, as a base would be nice too.

most of the girls went to Hobby Lobby and bought candle holder bases...they said they had a lot of different kinds...I could get to a store so bought a lamp base and took it apart. all the leaves and pedals have wire in them and it takes quite a while to sew them all together. the blue leaves around the middle do not have the wire. Everything is hot glued on and the teacher said hers has lasted 3 years and hasn't fallen apart. I put sand in the middle of wool pin cushion cuz I like it. A couple of girls have cats so left off the trailing yarn and put a bird and birds nest on instead. That was really clever also...
