Wow! That quilt is just plain gorgeous. The machine and hand quilting all depends on what you enjoy the most. For me, hand quilting a big quilt like that by myself would be overwhelming. Also where I live it is usually hot so having a big quilt on my lap for a year is not something I would enjoy. I use a hoop. Also I like planning and piecing more so I would probably machine quilt it because of its size.

This is a tough one, can see why you don't know where to start.

First thing that caught my eye was the border. There I would stitch in the ditch around the basket blocks and around each of the baskets. In the larger setting diamonds I would do a pattern to fill them in, I see flowers in the fabric, so maybe a pretty rose motif, or feathers.

In the center of the quilt, I again would stitch in the ditch around each block and each motif, and then maybe a larger meandering around the off white background.

Hope my suggestion helps you, I'm sure there will be more to come.
I agree with these quilting ideas. Tis a gorgeous quilt!!

it is just awesome! When I do quilts like this that are very geometric, I usually have a simple pantograph like clouds or wind that quilts it but does not detract from the design. I find SID tends to give the quilt too much texture and detracts from the baskets and such. Jmho.

You can do the simple stitch in the ditch in rows so each block is showcased. So the quilting doesn't take away the beauty of the blocks.

I have used my decortive stitches from my machine. Will post a picture of what I mean.

    Good luck!

its a beautiful work of art...I'd love to see pics of it when it's completed and I'm sure it will be even more beautiful once you have it completely finished

Thank you for the pictures. I use a bernina 820 machine, so there are lots of stitches to choose from. Will keep this in mind.

SOOOO pretty! If it was me I would just do an allover meander so the quilting does't detract from the beautiful piecing Just my opinion :)

Beautiful quilt, love your colour choices, I am fairly new to quilting so I don't feel qualified to give advise on such a complicated piece but there are some very talented people on the QB who will help you. I am still learning with every quilt I make! Looking forward to seeing it quilted.
