I have hand quilted, on a hoop. I have heard that some just place the quilt in their lap and go for it. ( I would check out techniques, though as it means lots of basting.) I know what you mean about paying a LA to quilt it as it can be expensive. It is a beautiful quilt. I suggest making some blocks pop by using circle quilting around the stars. Feathers are very appropriate for this one. Look at your picture. You could do some straight line quilting too. Good luck in what you decide.

As a beginning quilter, I do not have the experience to offer quilting suggestions, but it sure is a beautiful quilt. There's obviously been a lot of time put into that quilt. Congratulations on a great job!
