What a great find and so good of you to finish them up for your friends. You always do such a great job on everything you do. Good for you and good for them.

You did a beautiful job and how wonderful that you could help preserve those wonderful old quilts.

It turned out so beautiful Eddie. What treasures those quilts will be. I'm happy they will be enjoyed now. Life's too short not to use the good china!

Here is a good article about contemporary quilting of antique tops http://www.quiltersreview.com/articl...t/010409_c.asp

Eddie,
I noticed that even though the seams don't match up, the plaids were all cut very straight. I can almost see her with her cardboard template, lining up the plaids.......Very charming quilt. I'm glad you had the opportunity to help preserve it!!

Hey, I'm going to try those Hickory Nuts tomorrow at a one day retreat. I want to do a table runner and maybe some trivets. The fabric I picked has bird houses and birds on it. I'll try to post a pix if they turn out okay.
didn't get to go--best friend had a heart attack and I was at the hospital all night long with her. Maybe next time. ...

I do love that old quilt. It reminds me of the one that grandma had on their bed everyday of the year. She called it her washday quilt because it was in the wash every week. It's so worn out now but I still keep it. Those old quilts that were just pieced together without being as orchestrated as we do them now are just so beautiful in their simplicity. You did a fantastic job on it.

I'm sure the owners appreciate being able to use it. Though I have to admit the first thing that ran through my head is why wasn't it hand quilted. But, like Eddie, I don't hand quilt much so it wouldn't have gotten done:> And it looks like hand quilters weren't beating their door down to work on the tops. I would have to think that as "antiques" go, a finished, beautiful quilt would be worth more to the owners than a top hidden in a drawer.
