    Ricky Tims Mini

Ricky Tims is coming to location not too far from me in April. Mt Albert (there is only one store there.)
I was really curious about his convergence quilts and there are a lot on line to look at. I wanted to get some idea of how much fabric was wasted with all the cuts and seams so I decided to use - wait for it - 4 charm squares. Really cute. I'll hand this over to our guild for their mini silent auction/raffle at our show in May.
I still used 1/4 inch seams so I guess that's an unfair comparison. The smallest strip you see is 1/4 inch. Starting with 4 five inch charm squares, my mini ended up at a whopping 6 inches square.

Yikes, that is a lot of fabric in seams rather than on the front of the quilt. 4 charms to start made one at 6" finish.....You lost over 60%, right? Not for me with fabric as cher as it is today.

Great job on this! I made a mug rug & gifted it to a lady in the Bella Coola area of BC who had been generous in her quilting friendship. I never once considered if I was wasting fabrics or not in the process. If you get a chance to take any course with Ricky Tims I would sure grasp it! I was fortunate enough to attend Shipshewana, Indiana quilt seminars a few years back when he was there... bought his DVD etc... thoroughly enjoyed his presentations & evening show.

Thanks for the nudge, TBug .... I too am somewhat on the doorstep of his April seminar/concert.
Didn't really know if I wanted ... or should go! Somehow I have a hard time getting excited about sitting in an auditorium with 275 people for a day ........... and probably not in comfy seats!(let alone visibility).

I spent some time sewing hanging sleeves on my show pieces.
For the life of me why they want 4 inch sleeves on an 19 piece is silly seeing as they usually get pinned to a curtain,
See RT .. Heavens no. Any time I've seen a video clip.........so no.

Well that was the point of my wanting to see some instructions. Remember a 1/4 inch seam on a 3/4 inch piece consumes a lot more that a 1/4 inch seam on an 6 inch piece etc. I suppose its not much more fabric eating than a double nine patch or a kaleidoscope patch etc. things with a million cuts and re sews.

DD and I saw Ricky Tims there also. Absolutely loved seeing him. The concert was great--loved his stories about his granny.

Any chance to see Ricky Tims in person is a golden moment. He is wonderful, a great performer, and fun to be around all around. My most favorite memory of one of his shows is describing his first trip into a quilting store (as a man, with all the ladies watching him out of the corners of their eyes and holding onto their purses); one crazy show. He kept about 500 of us entertained for two full hours at the Paducah show (I think) last year. Don't miss your chance to see him.
Make every day count for something!

QuiltE.... the evening presentation in a lovely auditorium had his Rhapsody quilt hanging on display while he spoke and played the piano. (and a slide show on a huge screen) As far as the actual seminars were concerned they were held in a school room (it was held in the elementary school in Shipshewana) and there was a limited amount of sign-ups. I had no problem seeing or hearing at them.
