Default Roses in the oval

I was trying a new thread experimenting with starts and stops and bobbin thread but did a class sample and put it in wooden oval. I made the oval design by tracing the oval and measuring in to get my feather stem. I put guide lines in the center but freehanded the crosshatching to get more of a texture than a formal crosshatch look. It is harder to go straight diagonally than straight across or up and down. It was fun.

I like it Deb. Love the unevenness of the crosshatching. Was that your goal or did you want it even in all respects? Did you use Derwent Inktense pencils?

That is soooooo GORGEOUS Deb! It is amazing! I love roses and it is such a lovely looking piece. Wish I had your talent, you create such lovely pieces. It is just beautiful! The quilting is lovely and I like the uneven cross hatching. It lends it character to the piece. Thank you for sharing.

I like the uneven crosshatching for texture. I have only tried it once before. I use regular fabric paints that you can get in JoAnns or Michael's, even some very small town stores. I dip my brush in fabric medium and put the tip of the brush in the paint. Then I paint as shaky as I can on the edge of the petals. This gives me the depth of color with the dark on the edge of the petal. The light color in the rose petal is the background fabric. The fabric medium on the whole brush helps me blend the color gently to the background fabric.

When I practice or try something new, I like to have a usable piece afterwards. Since I was trying thread, it would not have mattered if the tension had been off and adjust as I went through the piece. It is a wall hanging.

I love all aspects of this. I really like how you done the cross hatch. Makes it look more like a weaved basket pattern. It is totally awesome. You done fantastic girl.
