    Ruler work

I went to a retreat a few weeks ago. I took my Juki 2010Q to practice some ruler work. I ended up giving a demo to some of the other ladies, some of whom didn't even know what ruler work was. Then I practiced some of things I've seen in videos. After using the ruler, one often does FMQ inside those lines. The wishbones [yellow arrow] turned out much better than I thought but the string of pearls [red arrow] need much, much more practice I've now acquired quite the collection of rulers. Practicing on a blank square is much easier than deciding what to do in the spaces on an actual quilt LOL. A friend and I are taking a class on Friday; maybe I'll get some more clues there.

Very interesting. I will be following this thread. I'm assuming this is on your domestic machine?

I see you are from Michigan (as am I). Did you take your class in Michigan? I'm looking for a class to take.

Nan, I have the same machine (love it) and have been playing around with rulers. I bought Angela Walters sets and I'm finding I really enjoy it.
    Your stitching looks great!

Like the wishbones. Think of the pearls as natural pearls, not cultured pearls.

Nan, I find if I move my whole body a tiny bit when I do circles, they get rounder..not just try to move my hands. Just how I do it.

Nice ruler work. I have to admit that I didn't know what ruler work was either.

Looks like you have the hang of ruler work. I haven't given it much thought.

Your work looks good. I especially like the design on the far left and it looks like you have mastered it.

Your ruler work is coming along great. The wishbones & feathers are fantastic. I tried some wishbones on a sample piece once & they were horrific! Everything just takes practice & you are on your way to new quilting methods. Congrats on the demo at the retreat.

I have just started to think about ruler work. I would like to take a class before I spend a lot of money and decide it isn't for me. I have talked with a sewing machine shop here in town and they will be offering a class soon. I have I can do as well as you did on a first (or second or third) try,

Your ruler work looks great. I have been debating about it. I watch the demos at shows but haven't bitten yet. I have the 2010q also. Looks like it was enough room. Thanks for showing us your work.

You are doing very well. I took a class and they gave us printed piece to work on, but also a book detailing which ruler to use and where to use it. Loved the class.
