Totally depends on the look you want. I think no smashing is a more modern look, framed they would look more traditional.

I like the no sashing - and yes I would love the name of this pattern. P.S. I did look through all of the posts and didn't see it!

I think it would be nice to audition various sashes. My first preference would be to try the background white as a sashing so the stars really jump out. Very simple and the stars and your quilting would be the focus. I look forward to seeing what you decide to do.

I would like to see more of those pretty fabrics too! And I agree that sashing would set them off nicely.

They are beautiful blocks and I cant make up my mind as to sashing or no sashing. I would try laying the sashing down and see how it looks.

Love the squares. I would love the pattern too!
I say either way, but I would try some different colors to see if I liked the sashing.

Thanks so much, the star block is Maine Star and it's from a book called 50 fabulous paper-pieced stars by Carol Doak.

I'm using all my 30's scraps of fabric. off to the sewing room to get another block made.

Thanks again.

Looked through all the posts for this thread, did not see the name of this pattern; just love it! Please share your pattern name/source...now to answer your question, I think I would try both ways, but would most likely leave the sashing out and utilize the squares that are formed from the pattern for beautiful quilting. However, if that is not your thing, most definitely put in some sashing; love your fabric choices. This is a spectacular pattern and I would love to make it...if you will share your pattern name...thanks in advance and can't wait to see what you decide to do when you share your finished project!
