so I am going to do it. I wanted a quick, easy weekend quilt and started this morning. I had a Moda "Louisa" laycake and some matching yardage. I am using Eddie's half square method. This is what I have done in the first hour:

The fabric

Four blocks finished
[ATTACH=CONFIG]160682[/ATTACH]

Ready to sew around to squares

Hey, I like that! I haven't done the HST's on a layer cake yet, but did them with the 5" one. So fun!!!

This is how I made the hst. 2 squares right sides together, sew 1/4 inch seam all the way around, cut corner to corner, and corner to corner. Press open. Easy!

first cut

second cut

pressed open
[ATTACH=CONFIG]160717[/ATTACH]
