Good for you for asking "what's wrong"--sometimes we are hesitant to do that. Folks on here are always willing to help out--isn't it great! By now, you've pretty well figured out what was wrong. Good luck ripping.

First I thought it's the blue diamonds but looking at it closer I find the colours and patterns of the border don't match the middle part, it's too "busy", takes away from the pretty center. Good luck!!!

The border is very nice but I don't think that it goes with the dresden. I think a color that goes a little better with the dresden would look nicer and maybe put cardinals instead of the blue birds. I just can't match all the colors to make it look right to me and that's just my opinion. It looks like nice work. I think sometimes it's hard to match colors so they look great together. Good Luck. I think if you tone down the border colors, you will like it better, the construction and idea is great, but the border tends to overpower, leaves no place for the eyes to rest.

I feel the border is just too bold for the center.

I agree with everyone else, the border is too strong for the dresden. I'd go with a softer border utilizing some of the colors from the dresden. This border just overpowers the softness of the dresden. I don't think the embroidery would work either. Perhaps the piano keys that someone else suggested would work better.
