beautiful quilt ... totally depicts the story of St. Urho with the colors, the grapes and grasshoppers. Thanks for instigating a piece of local history and educaton!

Funny, I lived in Minnesota for most of my life, and never heard of this - but I was from the southern end of Minnesota - but have been through Finland several times over the years of vacationing "up north".

Your quilt is absolutely beautiful - so unique!! She'll love it - I sure do!

I too had to google it. Fun!! For those that are curious here is one link of many hits I got. Basically it is Finnish descendents answer to St. Patrick. LOL

http://www.sainturho.com/

I am surprised I didn't know of it. My mom was born in Finland. Although she was of French/Russian descent and moved to Sweden early on in her life. It seems the tradition originated in the US so maybe that is why she never told of it.

Can you imagine if she finds it, how thrilled she will be. It is wonderful and will be so treasured. You have made it so personal for her. What an awesome thoughtful thing to make.
