Default Strange choice for a baby quilt

My DGD is expecting her first baby, a boy, in Jan. she has asked me to please make her baby's quit, bumper pad, and diaper bag. She doesn't want any pastel colors, no whites, none of the usual baby motifs like Disney or Pooh or Mother Goose, etc.
This is the pattern she chose, and the colors.
Her crib is black, the changing table is black, the chest of drawers is black, so....

Beautiful blocks! Should put a real pop of color against the black!

It's going to be so cool and the baby will be very mentally stimulated by the bright colors and patterns .

Fun and funky! It will be interesting to see who the baby turns out to be as a person. Two years from now you may be getting requests from him for a cartoon quilt.

You could use the pastels for sashing, another for trim for the diaper bag. I never had pastels for my first son's nursery but I had every color including black. It was a zoo theme wall paper with animals in cages and only enough for one wall. Got goldish orange shag carpet remnants and attaché them to the floor. My husband at that time wanted paneling (ugh). We worked with what we had. It really was cute. The white in the wallpaper just helped to balance that child's room. I think you'll be surprised how well it will turn out. I saw a knock-out nursery done in grey and black with pink and yellow accents. Yep it was a little girls nursery and she was able to grow up with it. the ceiling was a very light grey with white trim molding. Stunning.
