LOL, way back before you were born, they used newspaper print! It's just the medium my Mom choose.
Outdated phone book pages work, too, and it is a good way to utilize free paper. And by the time they are ripped off the quilt backs, they can be used one more time as packing material.
Love the way this quilt is put together!

It stabilizes the pieces, especially if you are using really small or skinny ones, as you sew. You take off the paper once you have the quilt (or blocks, depends on preference) together. I pieced 45 degree diamond blocks on paper once and it made it all go together much more smoothly....
