Bunting definition:
1. a coarse, open fabric of worsted or cotton for flags, signals, etc.

2. patriotic and festive decorations made from such cloth, or from paper, usually in the form of draperies, wide streamers, etc., in the colors of the national flag.

3.flags, especially a vessel's flags, collectively.

Doesn't look like any of the above to me. It's darling! Good job.

The person who told you that is a negative Nellie. I push those people out of my life as fast as I can. It is a very cute Christmas tree and the work you put into it is considerable and very professional looking. Kudos to you for a lovely project.

Looks like a really fun project, I like how you used buttons on the points.

So who really cares what it is called. That is just darling and you did a great job. I love that. Ike someone else said there are always some who are just jealous and like to "rain on your parade" just ignor them and know you have a piece of art that is well done. I have a friend who only sew when she needs to patch, but we have exchanges Christmas and B-Day gifts for about 30 yrs now, and I am always trying to give her something unique and different for Christmas- she loves Christmas and decorates a lot then, she also always gives me some new ornament on my B-day in Sept and also at Christmas for my minature Christmas Tree. Last yr. made her a darling tree skirt for her minature tree. This would be a great gift. Would you share your pattern?
