I have been checking my local thrift shops of all varieties. Sometimes I see fabric scraps, no big pieces. One time I did find some 1 yard pieces of flannel that I could use for prayer quilts our Church was making. But that was a rare find. I was wondering, if you do find fabric or patterns, do you buy all they have? Is that why it is so hard for me to find? Or do you just get lucky?
The one Goodwill store I was in recently - the prices on everything were so high - and I heard other customers say that too.

Local Goodwill store prices are high. EX. Got to the checkout with 2 pair of short lace curtain panels, the cost was MORE than new ones at K-Mart or Walmart. The good stuff is grabbed by a couple that stands by the door, when items are brought out they grab it. Manager says she can nothing about the problem.

I only buy what I like or what I think I can use. Or, if I see something I know someone else will like, I will buy it for them.
But, I don't find much fabric here, either. The prices at the local shops are high here, too. I have to drive to another city to find good prices! lol

I only buy what I like, my taste does change depending what I'm interested in at the time. Our Thrift stores, Goodwill and Salvation Army stores very seldom have fabric, at least I don't find it.

Our Goodwill prices are high here too, so I looked in the yellow pages and found other thrift stores that weren't affiliated with Goodwill, Salvation Army or other well known agencies and visited them. Found some awesome deals, and one shop in particular has a entire section filled with craft items, books, and fabric, plus they have specials every week and a monthly calendar you can pick up so you know when/what is on sale. I may have to drive a little further but it's worth it!

I haven't gotten lucky at my Goodwill or Sal. Army....but I have a friend that is an antique shop owner. When she does an Estate Sale that has nice fabric...I get a call immediatly or a quick email to call her...She usually lets me in on the day before, just for the fabrics. Sometimes she has me helping to price them if she is in doubt.

I have never found any fabric in my GW store...but I keep going and looking...and hoping that maybe one of these times I'll find some.
They did have a 99K Singer w/cabinet yesterday, but I already have one, so I didn't get it.
