Wonderful, the more fmq you do the more confidence you will gain.

I also put my binding on the back and roll it over to the front but I use a very small zig zag. It shows up less it is on the very edge and you don't get that little lip between the edge and the straight stitch that flips up so again it looks a little better. I use a width 1 or 1.5.
