I'm getting things moving here in the new sewing room. Here is the 9 patch I was working on. It's still on the design wall, I have to sew on the lattice and the outside border will be the dark blue calico I used in the blocks.

What do you think I should use on the back and the binding? I don't mind piecing the backing but I don't think I have enough fabric to piece all the colors I used in the top and put them on the back. I may want to use a yellow calico or...???

Great colors. I'd go with a darker color backing instead of the yellow, but I am not a yellow person and I always think how often I would have to wash it with lighter colors :) .

    Is this an EB sampler?

Perhaps you could use up the scraps from the top, and include other fabric in similar colors. JMHO.

Yes it is the Eleanore Burns Pioneer Sampler... I love her stuff and how she does them. I got hooked when I use to watch her on the PBS channel ages ago.... I ROTFL when she would say "Step on the GAS!"

I did 8 of the patches over 10 years ago and I just found them when I started to get my sewing room back together again. I did another patch so I have the 9. I don't have enough fabric to do all 12... so I will settle for 9. It's a practice quilt anyway... I want to do the machine quilting on this one.

The fabric I inherited from my mother. Her stash was amazing... I'll keep you all posted as I go along.

I'm going to do a very dark Navy for the back, but will quilt it with dark blue variegated thread. (Hope it comes out OK) I decided to do the yellow on for boarder... I'm not crazy about yellow either, but it looks real good next to the dark blue calico.

Oh my, that is beautiful. I think yellow for the back would be pretty. Great job on your quilt.

Love the color combination! Please post a pic after you have the border on-Is the batting and light background fabric thick enough so the dark backing won't show thru the light background of the top?

I was also thinking maybe thin yellow border first, then a wider smallish blue print for the last border would look nice. I tend to think a darker final border frames the whole quilt nicely. Anyway you decide will look terrific!
