I really wanted to learn how to do needle turn applique. I still really want to learn to do needle turn applique - but faster! This project was started 5 years ago! The top is finally done! This is a step-by-step learning project found in

The New Applique Sampler: Learn to Applique, the Piece O' Cake Way.

They give excellent directions. Very clear and precise. I'm just a slow learner, I think!

I'm so sick of this thing I don't even want to quilt it. I have no idea how to even begin quilting it. I already have a redwork quilt on the frame for hand quilting. I'm not sure I'm at all up to doing hand or machine quilting on this thing. I guess it'll have to go back into storage for another 5 years! Ha!

First try at needle turn applique

Oh don't put it away again! It is beautiful, I love the fabrics too. Can you send it out to be quilted?

Gorgeous quilt!!!

With that kind of applique (larger pieces), I much prefer doing it by machine -- so much faster, and looks almost the same. My favorite kind of applique is invisible machine applique using freezer paper. Learned how to do it from an earlier edition of Harriet Hargrave's book:
http://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Mach.../dp/157120136X

I tried needleturn applique and got a few blocks done, but realized that my hands cramp up awfully fast when I do it. Think it has something to do with the shape of my fingers and hands.
