Please give a gal a hand with your tips!
I didn't buy the pattern a friend showed me how to make it. After you get the bottom width you want, you have to pull the wrapped cord tight to get it to start curling up to form the basket. I do tht for several rows and push the cords together to make sure there isn't a gap between the rows.

I'm making another one now and it is turning out soooo much better! I think because I am making it smaller (hopefully a purse this time  )

I really don't have any tips as this is only my 2nd one.

The only pointer besides what I answered to RedGarnet is to start small for a practice.

I like your rag purse/basket. May I suggest something? For a purse, would't it lay/close better if the handles were on the longer side? Closing it on the ends like you have them now would make the bottom curl when it is closed, wouldn't it? Just a suggestion.

I have been going to try this technique when I saw it posted on here. I haven't found the cotton clothes line yet. I know I can get the piping at Joann fabrics, but with everything else on my list, I haven't gotten any yet. But it is on my list!!

Good luck on the one you are working on now...............post pictures when done.

The best way to learn how to use hand positioning is start small.
I have been making them for 2 yrs and it is very additive.I start with a 7 or 8 inch base line and make an oval about 5 to 6 inches wide and directly go to as far up as u can and keep rotating.
I make coaster, placemats, purses ,coin bowls and regular bowls. I use 2yds of line for coasters and 3yds for coin bowls. Nice way to use small pieces of leftover line.
