This is how I do it too... Use the larger hoop.

What do you do with all the extra if you are doing a really small shirt or baby clothing? That is the part I am trying to figure out. I am not much a an "outside the box" thinker, I need visuals, lol!

I'm not sure what you mean by "all the extra"? Maybe a picture would help.

What i mean by extra is the extra fabric from the item you are embroidering. Wish I had a picture to show what I mean!

I don't use that machine but I pin the extra out of the way and pin the garment part that is being stitched flat. The pins have to be outside of the stitching area though. 3D items are hard to embroider regardless of which hoop size you have. You should babysit the machine while it stitches anything that awkward as well so you can make sure no fabric ends up getting caught and stitched when it should be out of the way.

I roll up the backs of things (is that what you mean?) and tape or pin them to keep them rolled up. Then I hoop or pin or spray baste the part I want to embroider to the stabilizer. It can take some doing. One thing you want to avoid is embroIdering your hoop onto the fabric so that you can't unhoop it. I did that once. Duh! I'm not sure what a smaller hoop will get you. You'll still have to do the things i've listed.

Yeah, that makes sense. I have never seen anyone machine embroider anything so I am totally clueless on how some things need to be done. Thanks everyone!

Seems like there should be utube video out there somewhere that would help you out.
