Default Nativity

I have been away from quilting for a bit. Moved, and my sewing room went from 13'x17' to an apartment walk-in closet along with a shelving unit. (Boo...) I miss having the space to spread out, but I'm adapting. Thought I would start with a small project while trying to figure out where I can lay out quilts to sandwich and pin for quilting. This was a project from McCall's Needlework & Crafts magazine back in the late 50s/early 60s. My mother, aunt and grandmother each made one with felt and sequins on cotton. I remember as a small child it was the first decoration to go up- over the fireplace- until I made my parents a ceramic nativity set as an adult. Mom was going to throw it away, and even though it had mildew from storage, I couldn't part with it. I saved the original for pattern(magazine was long gone) and here is the beginning of the new version of applique. I will post when complete. Thanks for looking.

This is a wonderful rendition of the nativity scene. I can see why you would want to continue on the tradition. It is inspiring and something you just can't take your eyes off of. Back then you had to take a tiny graph image and enlarge the shapes to full size before you could even use them to cut out the pieces.

I have a few of those old magazines from the sixties. They are huge in size and filled with patterns. Some of which are back in style. Funny huh?
