They are better than mini blinds!
and today there is insulbrite to put in them, not like the old days (80's) when we had to layer batting, then mylar sheet, then batting and have to hold it all together while tacking it...what a pain...now they are a breeze to make....

I needed a window cover for DH's bathroom on a west facing wall. I purchased an insulated drapery "batting" and other supplies I needed at JoAnn's. There were plenty of great directions to choose from in books at the local library. It blocks sun and heat and provides black out if you should have a day sleeper.

Google 'roman shades' Made a shade for my kitchen window it faces the west. I used an inexpensive black out curtain for backing. It works good except the needle holes do show.
I call these holes creative design. That's my story.

I made 2 for my bedroom. My husband works 3rd shift and sleeps during the day.
I have this site bookmarked, hope it helps.
