I wonder 02-28-2011 12:03 PM

Just placed my order thru Gurneys and I feel like spring now has to be just around the corner! We had a first garden in many years last year and I must say it was a hoot! I had gotten rid of most of my canning supplies but a quick run to the store and we were back in business. My husband who was not too keen on the idea of a garden, is getting excited to get in the dirt again! LOL
How many here on this site have gardens?

I garden. I have a lot of flowers. I collect Iris. I also have a veggie garden and do alot of canning. I know that I'm ready to get my hands dirty and be outside but Mother Nature has other ideas. Nothing taste better than a big red tomato from the garden. In fact my DH will watch the first one and lets me know when it's ready cuz he wants BLT's.

We have a small container garden in our backyard and we grow the stuff to make our own salsa...tomatoes, lots of varieties of chiles, cilantro, and i grow other spices as well.

I have a small garden. I have not worked it yet this year but probably should.
Last year I had about 12 tomato plants, 16 bush beans, several peppers and some corn. I also had zucchini but we had such a cold summer last year that we didn't get any zucchini .

I'm a flower gardener & supply most of the neighbors with perennials. I usually have a pot with a tomatoe plant. All my flower bulbs are popping up now - our 1st week with rain instead of snow. I was out all weekend cleaning up the flower beds so the bulbs will look nice soon.

My husband and his family had a garden all his life so I married into the garden planting, picking, canning, freezing thing! The garden includes starting with asparagus ending with zucchini and everything in between. Husband starts his tomato plants from seed on Feb 2, Groundhog Day. Starts from seed his cukes, summer squashes, peppers, lettuce. Plants this instant garden after Memorial Day. Last year was a wonderful garden season here in New England. I make crosscut pickles, pepper relish and can whole tomatoes as well as tomato puree. There is absolutely nothing like a fresh tomato off the vine, or that ear of corn just picked and plunked into boiling water. Strawberries - so sweet!

I can't wait to get back in the garden. I always plant way too much, I think I still have about 20 quarts of spaqetti sauce, 30 quarts of beans, lots of pizza sauce, chili sauce .... you get the Idea, there are only the two of us well a grown son too that rarely eats at home. I have to force myself to cut back this year.:(

My husband has a huge garden and its what he does all summer, not a weed to be found ever ! I enjoy all the veggies we harvest along with our kids and neighbors who also get to have them. Any extra goes to the local food bank. We can and freeze alot of our veggies especially the tomatoes and green peppers, squash.
I cant wait until its time to get back out there so DH isnt always asking me what I am sewing ...LOL
