I'm Miriam. I was raised in Northern Wisconsin. My earliest memories are of the Ladies Aid. They would meet & eat in the church basement on Friday afternoons. They put (pieced ahead of time) fronts and backs filled with thick wool batts together by tying them with yarn. Some were just fabric on both sides. They were all called quilts. Many houses did not have central heat. Most of those crazy quilt tops were pieced by the elderly Mrs. Cora Clark. I did not learn until I was much older those really should be called comforters. I had never seen anything else other than a regular wool blanket. I remember someone teaching me to make a nine patch pillow when I was in college. I was hooked. I have a pieced quilt top I need to put together some time (it's been pieced for a long time.) My sewing is mostly done on a Singer 403 which I dearly love. It is one of many sewing machines lurking in my sewing room and a whole new story. I have 5 grand children ages 10 years to 3 months.
