I am hoping we can start a new chat threat about these little wonders. We have a 4 year old female~Lexi & just added a 9 week old puppy~ Zoey to the family. It cracks us up to see the baby girl doing the same things Lexi does. Some of the mannerisms I've never seen in any other breeds. For example, before eating Lexi will paw/scratch the ground in front of her food bowl. What do your Yorkies do?And do you have any helpful hints on raising pups?

OMG, I thought my nutty "gordon" was the only one that scratch the ground before he ate. that is to funny. I wanted a lap dog and he is the best there could possibly be.

My Yorkie is nuts too. SHe will not eat at her bowl. She must take the food and go far away from the bowl. Many times on the couch, to eat. The best advice I can give is to take good care of their teeth. They seem to have a tendancy to get absesses and boy do they stink!!!! A HUGE smell can come from those tiny mouths.

I don't have Yorkies but my step-daughter has two - they are very cute - she has two girls - the only problem is in the last 6 months the two dogs have grown to hate each other and they have to keep them separated.
We have watched the dogs while she is on vacation and they were fun to take care of - this was before the above incident.

As you can see we have 'Lily' and she also does the thing with pushing her nose along/scraping before she will eat. Interesting to find others do it too! As I Speak shes running like a mad dog around the room! Spring Fever I think! This is our 2nd yorrie after our 1st pasted had to have another, like Potatoe Chips you just can't have one!

Otis, the problem with the two girls fighting is probably a dominance problem. You have two queen bees and fighting girls can be nasty. That is why I have my Cavalier Molly. She was causing fights with all of the other girls even her mother and grandmother at her breeders. To maintain peace, Molly had to move. There's no problem at my house - she's an only dog!

How funny that so many others scratch & carry! Another thing Lexi does is bark once or twice when the dryer goes off, we sneeze or hubby passes gas. Seriously,Lexi? We know!!!!She also barks until I answer my cell phone~usually it's in my purse in the laundry room & she knows I can't hear it. Lexi is super timid & won't visit with anyone except family. Family, she adores~even my son who she only sees once a year. Friends who are here every week....nope, she won't even let them pet her.If she sees another dog outside she highlights back in the house. After a few days she is warming up to the puppy. Huge progress!!!We are trying to let her be #1 dog and not let the 2 pounder take over.

I have always wanted a miniature Yorkie! One that will always stay tiny! Some day, when I move back to Ohio, I am gonna have me one! They are such sweet doggies!

We've had Yorkies for about 35 years. Current Bailey will be 15 the end of June. We've had him since he was 5 weeks old. He is so much like our first yorkie that you know it has to be in the breeding..no one was here to teach him these things. Bailey is almost blind and very hard of hearing; however, when our toddler gn or neighbors are over he is like a puppy jumping up and down from furniture. He has always loved to lick the feet of little children. Bailey wears a swim vest outside because he doesn't always remember where he is and has ended up in the pool a couple of times. He's a love but we are now the caregivers for a pretty demanding elder yorkie.
