When I was a kid we would make Easter eggs by wrapping crochet thread soaked in something around a balloon. Let it dry over night and then pop the balloon and have a wonderful lacy Easter egg. Now my question...........what did the thread get soaked in? Flour and water........cornstarch and water or something else. I can't remember. Help......I want to do this with DGD.

Could you use undiluted starch (sta-flo) or something similar?

QuiltnNan 03-30-2011 09:29 AM

I think it was sugar water. My mom used to also "starch" her doilies with it.

White glue and water should work. That is what I always used for paper mache. It dries super hard.
