G'day all, Was in the local fabric shop and found 'pre quilted calico' and was wondering if that would be suitable to use as a backing for table runners. I am going to make the runners for home use only.
Thanks for any advice. Cheerio Shirley |
I buy that when I find remnants. They are fantastic for wall hangings.

Thank you, will
go and buy some tomorrow. Bye Shirley |
Another great resource is to watch for Motel sales. Lots of times they go through a whole motel and sell the quilted bed-spreads for just a few dollars each when they are updating their decor. These are really a steal when you can get a King or Queen sized spread for $5.00.

I guess it would depend a little on how you plan to quilt it. Maybe it would be best to make a little sandwich and test your quilting method before you start on the real thing. I'm assuming there's fabric already on both sides of the pre-quilt, and that's extra bulk to sew through after you add your top. The pre-quilts that I'm familiar with have a rather lofty polyester batting, which also might give it a different look, or make the quilting go differently if you're used to something else.

I have use prequilted material (stuff I really didn't like colorwise) as batting.

I have done that on occasion. up to how you will attach your quilted top .
anything goes when you are working. Always like opinions too. It is nice to have so much available to us ! up to how long of a story your piece will tell. If used hard or kept as an heirloom. |
Using Pre Quilted Calico to make bags

I have used pre quilted calico to make bags with - I have used it as the exterior fabric (see picture) and has the interfacing as it makes a provides a lovely quilted effect. I also plan to make cushion covers with it.

I have used it for a table running before. I quilted the runner and it was easy to use. I got a huge chunk of Christmas pre-quilted with white fabric on the back and used it with the white side out for quite a few non Christmas items.

What a great idea
