Hi! Having once worked at a fabric store and having there been bitten by the fabric bug, I've been building a fabric stash for quite a while. Sadly, though, am still really new to quilting [not much time between FT work and home/ family duties. I am determined to get going with it but am curious about, just for starters, design board types, colors going together etc etc. I'm rather on my own with this, since I have not found a group to join. So I think I'd love to hear what you all might have to say on at least these thoughts. Thanks in advance for sharing any thoughts, advice or whatever. --M

Hi and welcome from Texas. Glad you decided to join us. No help on your design board question, as I don't have one. I know several have discussed using flannel backed table cloths or flannel covered boards. I saw a small one the other day at Hobby Lobby that was probably 24x36" that was flannel on one side and cork on the other. As for color combos, I don't think there's any right or wrong, just what pleases you. I've seen some color combos here that I would never have thought to put together, but they worked! So, I guess just whatever floats your boat is good! Happy quilting!

Hello Mims and a big welcome from North Carolina. I'm not new to sewing but I'm new at making quilts. I don't use a design board, color I basically think about clothing, like what colors go together when you are matching what color blouse goes with certain color pants, does that make sense?
Anyways tell us do you have the tools you need to make a quilt, fabrics, thread, rotary cutter, cutting board ect. If you do then all you need is a pattern and the perfect one to start with is a nine block disappearing patch it is easy to make and you need at least two colors, a light one and a dark one.
You are going to get a lot of answers to your questions and lots of advice from this group of amazing quilters so sit back and get ready to learn and have fun. :D

How cool is that.. and everyone so-oo kind, and I know that I didn't get very far. So much to read and learn; I am getting very excited.. --Hi to Charla in Sherwood! [I am in Beaverton] :) [yipee]
