I would love to hear any stories you may have about this era, especially about the fabrics/feedsacks.

What constiutes a 30's fabric to you?.....

Any stories out there?

Wish I could share. I have stories from my folks, but no experience. I hope you get some response. I would love to hear from others.

I heard that my first quilting teacher, Jeffrey Gutcheon, was responsible for reintroducing the 1930's fabric back in the 1970's when quilting became more recognized as the art it is. How lucky for us!

I didn't come along until the 60's but my mom remembers having dresses made for her with the feedsacks.

I'm a 50's model but I remember my Mom said that she had underwear made from feedsacks. Hope they were the soft ones.

I don't have any stories from the 30's. My parents were growing up and living in Italy so their stories are quite different.
I do like hearing about America in the 30's though.

I'm from the mid 40s and a grew up in a suburban area. So, alas, no feedsacks - my mother knitted and did needlepoint. .My grandmother had a treadle that I think was really my grandfather's because we heard stories about him being a "tailor", and my grandmother knew nothing about the machine. My siblings and cousins and I used to play on it, with no thread. My aunt sewed on the treadle and did embroidery. My aunt has it now and won't give it to me!!! I'm still working on her. She hasn't opened it in years.

i had a dress made with flower sacks and it was my favorite I even wore it in my first school pic and I can remember my mom being very upset with me for wanting to wear it.
