I am interested in purchasing a quilting fabric calculator. I have seen 2 hand held models and also the Quilt Wizard. The first hand held is by Calculating Industries? which is the cheaper one and the other is by The Each company. Does anyone have an opinion on any of them? They are pretty close to the same cost so that doesn't really help.

I say save your money for fabric, and use this FREE one! http://vrya.net/quilt/classic.php

I have seen the ones online but wanted something a little more in depth. Also, wanted something to take along on shopping trips. I will probably just stick to the ones online but always looking for something to make things a bit easier!

My DH bought me one for X-Mas from Joanns..you can always use the 50% off coupon! I have not used it myself, since I am in the very bad habit of just accumulating all sorts of fabric, instead of buying only for projects :/

I have the quilt wizard and find it limited. You can only use the patterns provided. You may get a general idea of what you need, but not exact if your pattern is not included in the software. (Clear as mud, right!)

Good idea about 50% off at Joann's. I do in fact have one and was wondering what to use it on. Was thinking of using it to buy a bolt of PFD cotton for dyeing but can wait for next coupon to do that. I also love to dye white on white fabric. It dyes the background but not the design, makes some beautiful fabric. Will be heading to Joann's on sunday to use my coupon since it isn't good until the 5th.

If you have an IPhone there are quilting apps out there that will calculate stuff. Check them out. Some are even free.

I used a coupon and got mine for $19 at joann's
still learning to use it. |
can't beat that price. Let me know when you learn to use it. I am not a real fan of learning that kind of thing but will do it for quilting. :P I was lucky enough to find a Fiskar Quilting and Craft ruler on Amazon. They don't make them anymore. I hope I like it, if not will be easy enough to sell I think. As you can see I like to have all the help I can get in my quilting. :-P
