Went to the dump last week and was getting ready to toss in my bags....well some fabric caught my eye. Rescued TWO of the quilts...looked like more but they were under a mass of garbage bags and stinky stuff. Both look to have been used for paint drop cloths and other clean up tasks. They are hand pieced and quilted, stitches are long they were most likely utility quilts or everyday covers. Both are twin size or started out that way. They are lovely! Aired them out and will have to do some trimming, baste around the edges and patch tears etc. Otherwise looks like a nice project. Someones loving fingers made these beautiful covers. Just wanted to share.

Good for you! I rescued one from the garbage once..kind of beat up, lovely old bubble gum pink and muslin. I just can't see them thrown in the garbage! Good job!

Don't forget to disinfect them well! I've brought stuff home from the landfill, but would never dare sleep with any of it. And I definitely give the 'tosser' credit for trying to speed the quilts breakdown by not bagging them in plastic!

Glad you could rescue them.

Great job rescuing them. I just hate to hear that a quilt of any type is abandoned.
