Not sure if this is in the right category, as sometimes it hard to choose the right one!

Any way surfing and found this on a quilt site:

HOMEMADE QUILT WASH
No need for fabric softener. There is no static cling. You use only 2 tsp per quilt and 2 tbsp for a load of laundry.
Suitable for use with a front load washer.. Mix in an old ice cream bucket or canister:
1 cup Borax
2 cups washing soda
1 cup dry bleach for unbleachables (doesn't hurt the quilt because you only use 2 tsp of this recipe for washing)
1 bar of grated laundry bar soap (Sunlight or Fels Naptha)
Also use 1/4 cup of this formula to soak stained items and ALL the stains will come right out.

This is notREALLY a quilt wash..it is a general HOME MADE laundry soap...have been using this for years...

This is what I use for all of my laundry not just my quilts. I am making a batch now for my son to take to college. so economical and works like a dream!

I use oxygenated cleaners e.g oxyclean. works great.

The recipe I'm using is this: 4 cups hot tap water, 1 bar soap grated (I used Fels Naptha). 1 cup Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda, 1 cup borax.
Grate soap and melt in 4 cups of hot water stirring continually over medium heat. Put 2 gallons of hot tap water into 5 gallon bucket, add melted soap, soda and borax. Stir until all is dissolved. Add enough water to make 4 gallons. Let set overnight and it will gel slightly. Stir before using. Use 3/4 cup for a large load of clothes. Has also been used for cleaning woodwork, porches, vinyl siding, etc. You can add 10-15 drops of essential oil if you want fragrance.

This sounds like something I would like to try. But what is washing soda? :?:
