just had to share this tip I found online last night it has been so dang hot here and we have no air conditioner so I looked up how to make my own. All you need to do is fill a larger milk jug or similar with water and freeze it then sit it in front of your fan. I was sceptical at first but I actually have goosebumps on my legs right now with it blowing on my feet! The house is so much cooler I might even cook tonight ~ hmmm better not push it!! :XD:

Thank goodness we do have central air.... but if not....I would be filling up and freezing every empty large container I could put my hands on!

I hope we all get a reprieve soon!

I am sending cool gentle breezes to all of you who are having the heat waves..We have been warm here too but nothing like the heat that is going on in the middle of the country..it gets up to about 80* or 90* here and that is hot for us. We rarely get over 90*. Stay cool whatever way you can...crafty_linda_b

I just brought up this idea to my husband! No A/C in the sewing room and I thought this would allow me to sew. Thankfully the humidity has come down now. Still hot but I can at least spend short periods sewing!

I generally hate cliches like this, but I'm in St Louis, and I don't know about other places, but it's really not just the heat, it's the humidity! It feels like you're walking through a swimming pool outside here!

I live in Houston and the only time I love the humidity is when I come home from the desert, like Las Vegas. And for you Phoenixites or Phoenixians (or whatever they call people who live there), it doesn't help us to hear "yes, but it's a DRY heat". Hot is hot!

This will also assist ur a/c in cooling.
I grew up in TX with no A/c. We freq would wet a wash cloth or hand towel and drape it over the front of a box fan. You would be surprised how much even that will help.
Even a few years ago I was living in Texas with minimal a/c. It wasn't always comfortable but u do adapt to ur living situations.

My ex was stationed at Fort Hood, TX and our apartment had a swamp cooler. It worked very well.
Up here a dehumidifier can work wonders up to a point. The currant heat need AC cause it just to dog-gone hot!
