As a frustrated grandmother (as in a grandmama wanna be), I actually made a quilt for my "grand dog" as soon as I heard the kids were getting a puppy. I am interested in knowing if others have done the same, and if others treat their children's pets as surrogate grandchildren.

BTW - my nest fillers, Sapphire, Jezebel and Evelyn, are treated like babies!!

Hi Penny, I know just what you're talking about. My kid's are grown so my dogs are my babies now. I have two American bulldogs and I would be lost without them. I haven't made them any quilts because they always chew their blankets. Your dogs are beautiful. How did you get their picture on the message board?

Yes, indeedy. I make kitty throws for my girls and I have a few around here. I make a 36" to 45" square quilt that I keep on the ottoman. It goes with the decor. The kitties sit on the ottoman.

I've been waiting for grandkids for 15 years....none yet. I have 3 dogs and a cat, and two grand cats, and they will all have their own pet quilts. I keep one on the chair because that is where they want to be, and two by the bed. I made a doggie themed pet quilt for an animal shelter raffle once, and they sold a lot of tickets for it. It was a fun break. I also made a pieced ball for my cat, but the dogs chewed it up. It was fun, too, but didn't last long enough to make it worthwhile. I still buy fabric that would make great baby quilts, just in case.

Minda, there is a place in the profile (near the bottom) where you can browse your computer for a file to upload for an avatar. I just uploaded a picture of two of my girls.

My mom is not a quilter, boo-hoo-but she has made quilts in the past. She treats my cat like a grandchild but has never made him a quilt. I have considered making one for his bed. I just might....

Penny, Thanks for the help.

not a quilt but used my quiliting abilities; what I did was price doggie beds and thought... "hey I could make that a lot cheaper for my six puppies - if I made it with a sewing machine." I ended up filling it with cedar wood chips instead of batting... and put it in the floor of their dog house. I used a french hem on it and so far so good no chewing into the bed. It has a berber coverlett on it. (So if anyone makes a puppy quilt I would recommend the french hem) It's pretty high quality and I made it for about half price then what they charged in stores. So I'm happy and puppies are happy.. as long as they are toasty warm this winter I'll feel successful with that project.

I didn't set out to do it. But I made the quilt for the bed, and then the little old cat who adopted me claimed a little territory of quilt to call her own at the foot of the bed. And I wouldn't have it any other way!

I have only one grandchild, but three grandbaby dogs - and yes I have made quilts for each one. I have a toy Yorkie and I made a rag quilt for her and a blanket whick she just loves to lay on.
